Human and Nature
人與自然
Four photographic series explore the ambiguous boundary between the human-made and the natural through encounters during travel and tourism.
When we visit nature, we remain part of it.
Our relationship with nature changes as our ways of understanding the world change. Tourism and outdoor activities are familiar ways of approaching nature today. During these journeys, I became aware of the ambiguous position people occupy at the boundary between the human-made and the natural when they visit “absolute nature.”
I often photograph from a position behind groups of visitors, and bring physical boundaries into the frame to examine the territories between people and nature. Yet, as living beings, we remain inseparably connected to nature. The distances and boundaries in the photographs become ways of reconsidering that connection.
